Information
My name is Angel L. Ramos Vazquez, I am a United States Marine Corps Veteran. I had the opportunity to serve as an active-duty member for 6 years, I also serve 1 year in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Currently, I am working full-time for the City of Hollywood.
During the time I serve as an active-duty member of the United States Marines. I acquire many leadership skills and technical skills. During this time, I had the opportunity to learn and work as a Ground Electronics Telecommunications and Information Technology Systems Maintainer. There was a time that our command’s ability to enable communication efficacy and project combat power, I directly support the establishment and over 450 hours of uninterrupted service of a 75,000-watt power grid needed to support the entire Logistics Combat Element’s headquarters site. I assisted by installing information system and environmental control units, ran and installed over 1,500 feet of electrical cable, and grounded all applicable systems following safety protocols.
On another occasion in support of the largest training exercises on the West Coast, my technical acumen led me to be awarded by the Company Commander by repairing a mission-critical cable for a communications system, through diligence and initiative, I saved the Marine Corps over $3,000 by eliminating the need for it to be evacuated to a higher echelon of maintenance. In so doing, I not only acted as a steward of critical mission support funding, but I also kept that crucial system “in the fight” which bolstered the ability to support the exercise. On many other occasions, I was called upon to operate, diagnose, and repair information technology systems on which I had never received formal training. Holding myself to a high standard of dependability and excellence, benefitting junior Marines from my daily examples.
Applying the United States Marine Corps leadership traits such as Courage, Dependability, Enthusiasm, Initiative, Integrity, Judgment, Justice, Loyalty, Tact, and Unselfishness, in conjunction with the United States Marine Corps Ethos; Honor, Courage, and Commitment has forged me to be the person that I am and has helped me in my professional life. Nowadays working with the City of Hollywood and implemented not only this knowledge, but also the technical skills acquired in the USMC, I can serve as a force multiplier by diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining not only low voltage equipment such as 4-20 milli Amps, but also high voltage equipment’s ranging from 220 to 480 volts.
As mentioned by General Mattis “Leaders must always generate options by surrounding themselves with bright subordinates and being catalyst for new ideas” (Mattis, 2019). Working under pressure, teamwork, and being a leader are extremely valuable experiences for me because I can continue applying them daily and support the growth and success not only of individuals but also of the organization.

As a United States Marine Corps (USMC) Veteran, I live by this core values and apply them to my professional and daily life.
Honor represents ethical and moral behavior. A Marine is taught never to lie, cheat, or steal, have respect for human dignity and have concern for others. Honor represents a commitment to act responsibly, be accountable for one’s own actions, fulfill one’s obligations, and hold others accountable for their actions.
Courage is more than the act of being brave. It includes mental, moral, and physical strength ingrained in a person. It takes courage to do what is right even when no one is looking. Leading by example and making tough decisions under stress and pressure.
Commitment is the spirit of determination and dedication that promotes the highest order of discipline to a cause greater than one’s own self. Commitment is a value one develops, which can encourage others to emulate. Knowing that you’re a part of something bigger one should take into consideration the consequences of our actions not only impact oneself but may also impact any organization you’re a part of.
